Research Associate | Data Scientist

 

George Choumos holds a BSc degree in Computer Science and Telecommunications from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and an MSc degree in Data Science from the Athens University of Economics and Business. He is currently pursuing a second MSc degree in Space Technologies, Applications and Services from the inter-institutional master studies programme "STAR" by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Polytechnic School of the University of Patras.

 

 

He is an experienced software engineer, working as a member of multicultural teams in software development projects since 2013. Before joining the National Observatory of Athens, he was a Senior Software Engineer for Scientific Games. In the context of his roles he was involved in all the stages of software development, from requirements engineering to analysis, development and production deployment using Agile methodologies. In recent years, he was also involved in projects related to Infrastructure, DevOps, Code Management and Release Management and he was the team leader of relevant groups.
In January 2021, George joined the Institute of Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing as a Research Associate Data Scientist. He is currently focusing on the exploitation of Machine Learning and Deep Neural Networks for the monitoring of the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy. He is also involved in applications and research related to Space Surveillance and Tracking and Space Security in general.
