Space Surveillance Operations Support Engineer (1 vacancy)

Location: National Observatory of Athens, Greece (Hybrid)

The Greek National Operations Center for Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST), part of the National Observatory of Athens and its Operational Unit BEYOND, is seeking a highly motivated Space Surveillance Operations Support Engineer to join its team.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor day-to-day operations of the Greek SST system.
  • Ensure the seamless operation of SST applications through debugging of potential issues and collaborating with third-party software providers.
  • Contribute to the activities related to Greece’s participation in the EU SST partnership.
  • Produce clear and concise technical documentation.
  • Develop monitoring pipelines for the Greek SST systems.
  • Develop tools to automate daily operational SST tasks.
  • Collaborate with experts across astrophysics, Space engineering, and Artificial Intelligence to develop innovative solutions relevant to Space Surveillance.
  • Potentially participate in research experiments, paper writing, and contribute to the dissemination of findings.
  • Occasional travel for project meetings and presentations. 


Qualifications:

  • Preferably a Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Space Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.
  • Good knowledge of at least one programming language, like Python (preferred), Java, Ruby, JavaScript, C/C++.
  • Proficiency with code management tools and platforms (e.g., git, CVS, GitHub, GitLab, etc.).
  • Experience working with relational databases.
  • Experience in Unix-based OS environments.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, analytical mindset and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • English language proficiency preferably at C2 level, both written and spoken.

 

Nice to have:

  • Experience in full-stack software development.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in AI-pipelines, ranging from data engineering, data analysis, machine learning and data visualization.
  • Familiarity with:
  • Bash scripting
  • Container technologies (Docker)
  • Building and consuming API services
  • Project-management tools (e.g., Jira)
