Educational programs in schools that inspire STEAM ambitions and make STEAM subjects more engaging, accessible, and appealing to a diverse range of students are critical for shaping the future well-being and success of students and ensuring Europe's global competitiveness. Education on Earth, Moon, and Mars Observations (EMMO) represents an interdisciplinary approach that integrates STEAM subjects, while cultivating essential soft skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and data analysis. These programs also highlight the significant role of space technology in our daily lives, fostering environmental awareness and the value of Earth Observation (EO) in managing natural resources. Additionally, EMMO education offers students a gateway to explore other worlds and deepen their understanding of the universe.
The STEMMOS project aims to design, develop, and evaluate an innovative educational program to empower trainers in teaching EMMO science. This initiative targets to enhance students' STEAM capabilities and soft skills while promoting a deeper appreciation of space science.
Main Objectives:
- Conduct a comprehensive analysis of best practices in EMMO science education for children across Europe.
- Strengthen trainers' knowledge and pedagogical expertise in EMMO through tailored materials and exposure to diverse methodologies.
- Explore and integrate innovative tools and methods for teaching EMMO, including the creation of an interactive hub.
- Organize a series of training sessions, national events, and a dedicated summer school for trainers.
- Pilot test the STEMMOS educational framework with students, supported by trained trainers, to evaluate its effectiveness.
- Design, specify, and test an experiential space science festival to inspire wider engagement.
- Implement targeted dissemination activities to promote program adoption at a European level.
